Lick O’ The Week #15 Essential Classics

LollyPop2The Train Lick!

Here’s the second installment of my Essential Classics Series (ECS). These ECS licks are ubiquitous in Rock and Metal. And unlike some of my other Licks O’ the Week, they are not too hard to play. But they sure do sound good!

This week we’re all about the Train lick. It’s used in blues and country, but it’s huge in rock. Check out of Joe Perry’s signature intro to “Train kept a Rolling”, or some of those rapid fire repeating “Free Bird” licks… and so many other songs.

Most of the time we think of this lick as a double stop, a two-note chord. But if you play the notes separately, I still consider it the Train Lick. So here ya go.

Rock and Roll on down the tracks!!
